What is Cystic Fibrosis?

Cystic fibrosis is a fatal disease that can affect all Canadians. Each week in Canada, two children are diagnosed and one person dies from the disease. You can be a lifeline. Visit drowningontheinside.ca and share this site with people you know.

Cystic Fibrosis Canada is a Canada-wide health charity established in 1960, with volunteers in more than 50 chapters across Canada. The organization is one of the world’s largest non-governmental granting agencies in the field of cystic fibrosis research.

About Cystic Fibrosis Canada

The Canadian Cystic Fibrosis Foundation was founded in 1960 by a group of concerned parents. The London Chapter is one of 52 local branches across Canada and serves the areas in London, St. Thomas and surrounding area. Our Chapter was formed in 1960 and has been successfully run by a hard working group of dedicated volunteers and a Chapter Administrator.

The mission of  Cystic Fibrosis Canada is to help people with cystic fibrosis.

About Cystic Fibrosis Canada-London Chapter (formed 1960)

Some of the members that formed the London Chapter were: the Campbell family, the Ivey family and the Mader family. The London Chapter was the second to form, after the Toronto Chapter. The London Cystic Fibrosis Chapter met in people’s homes until most recently.  Cystic Fibrosis Canada – London Chapter now meet at the  east side mario’s  masonville on the first Tuesday of each month.

Over the years the chapters has held many events:

charity dinners; sold cheese, tags, daisies and poinsettias; magic shows; dances; Charity casinos; bingo’s; art auctions; paintball, car cruises, road hockey; Canadian Truck Nationals; car-washes; bake sales; Karna Ivey Performance series concerts; our Chapter has been featured in various restaurants where each patron donates a $1.

The longest running events that our chapter has participated in are bingos and the Highland Cystic Fibrosis Charity Golf tournament, which completed in its 40th year 2010!

Most recent chapter events include: Kinsmen Fanshawe Sugar Bush; Great Strides Walk formerly Moonwalk with Zeller’s; 3 on 3 Face Off Against CF Road Hockey Tournament, Flagswipe Paintball Charity tournament.

Annual area charity events include: SHINERAMA and the Carstar Soaps it Up Carwash

The London Chapter frequently partners up with the local KIN Canada Clubs for many events.  The Kinsmen Club of Greater London and the Kinette Club of London received the best supporter award at the Ontario Provincial Meeting 2007.

The London Chapter has held the Ontario Provincial Meeting quite a few times and most recently have bid for the National Annual General Meeting 2010, the Foundation’s and the Chapter’s 50th anniversaries.

Our Chapter’s primary goal is that of fundraising, but we also work as an advocacy and information group for parents and families diagnosed with cystic fibrosis.

The London Chapter won the Fred Blizzard Chapter of the year award in 2008.
